She has served on the dance faculties of Texas Christian University, Booker T Washington HSPVA, Interlochen Arts Academy, Houston’s HSPVA, and San Jacinto College. She will be a visiting professor of Dance at Sam Houston State University in the Spring of 2017.
Additionally, Mabus has presented her own choreography in festivals and residencies, such as Dumbo Dance Festival, Cool/NY Festival, Interlochen Arts Academy, UT/Dallas, Omega Dance Company, Elle Danceworks and at the historic Wynne Home and Arts Center. She was the 2015 Rice University Dance Artist in Residence, one of Noble Motion Dance’s 2016 “Next Step” emerging artists, and is proud to be presenting work this year through the Dance Gallery Festival and other regional festivals. Mabus is also honored to be selected and one of Dance Source Houston’s 2017 Artists in Residence. Mabus received her BFA in Dance from Southern Methodist University and her MFA from Sam Houston State University, and she is also a 500-hour certified yoga instructor.
Mabus’ modern dance class explores how the wisdom of classical modern dance traditions combine with contemporary exploration to empower today’s dance artist. This class will begin with exercises in and out of the floor designed to bring awareness to the spine, functional use of the core, and one’s relationship to the floor. The class will build on these concepts to strengthen technical facility and will culminate in a phrase that allows for personal expressive, musical and aesthetic investigation.
