Mike Young, an Arlington studio owner and husband of co-owner and ballet teacher Megan Young, was diagnosed with bladder and prostate cancer in the fall of 2013. Mike and Megan own Innovative Dance Inc., a recreational studio, and founded Arlington Classical Ballet Academy, a pre-professional training program and academy for students gifted in classical ballet and dance.
Throughout the year, students and their families have been holding various events and fundraisers to raise money to help the Youngs with their medical expenses. Mike has been doing very well in his treatment and his surgeries, and the support from the community has been incredibly helpful and encouraging.
To conclude the academic year, Arlington Classical Ballet Academy will present Dancers Against Cancer at the Scott Theatre in Fort Worth, Texas on Sunday, June 1st. This benefit performance will include a silent auction, and all ticket and auction proceeds will go toward the Youngs and their medical bills and fees. The performance will feature ACBA dancers and teachers as well as several Metroplex dance companies including Avant Chamber Ballet, Dallas Neo-Classical Ballet, Dark Circles Contemporary Dance, Gaudium Dance Movement, and imPULSE Dance Project. Tickets are $25, $40, and $15 for student tickets.
Members of FurtherDance Fort Worth leadership will be serving as ushers, assisting with the production, offering items and services for the silent auction, as well as performing and presenting choreography. We are excited to see the DFW dance community come together to support a wonderful cause, and we hope you’ll join us on June 1st!
